Swedish Massage: 60 or 90-minute sessions

Massage, Caitlin Marcoux, NantucketSwedish Massage is the choice for for stress reduction and total body relaxation. Swedish massage is the most commonly used form of classical Western massage, generally performed in the direction of the heart, sometimeswith active or passive movement of the joints. It is used especially for relaxation, relief of muscular tension, and improvement of circulation and range of motion. This technique includes effleurage, pétrissage, friction, vibration, and tapotement. Swedish massage is intended to improve circulation and tissue elasticity while reducing muscle tone and creating a parasympathetic response. Available in 60 and 90 minute sessions. 

Deep Tissue Massage: 60 or 90-minute sessions

For lovers of deep pressure and targeted therapeutic pressure. Deep tissue massage utilizes the therapist’s fingers, thumbs and elbows to releasechronic muscle tension, using slow, deep strokes and friction; the therapist may work perpendicularly to the length of thefibres of the superficial muscles, with the intent of massaging muscle that lies underneath. The therapy borrows from other forms of bodywork, including Chua ka, cross-fibre friction massage, deep tissue sculpting, Hellerwork, Rolfing and others; it isbelieved to increase blood flow and to be of greatest use in problem muscles for pain, rehabilitation and arthritic complaints.A group of massage techniques designed to access multiple layers of muscle and fascia to improve alignment, reducelevels of resting tension, and create more efficient postural and movement patterns. Available in 60 and 90 minutes sessions. 

About Caitlin’s bodywork background

Caitlin was certified to practice massage by the prestigious Soma Institute for Clinical Massage Therapy , now the Cortiva Institute, in Chicago, IL in 2005. She practiced clinical massage therapy in Chicago for 3 years, before returning home, to the island of Nantucket, in 2007. She spent three seasons working at the distinguished White Elephant Spa, before leaving to open her private practice in 2010. Caitlin is a member of the American Massage Therapist’s Association’s (AMTA) Massachusetts chapter, and holds current certification with the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCTMB). She is licensed to practice in the state of MA.
